Family time is important for both kids and adults. It strengthens the family bond when you prioritize family fun activities. If you're looking to spend more time together, but you struggle with deciding what kinds of things to do, then creating your very own family fun jar is a great way to make the process a lot easier, and a lot more fun!

This krafty concept can introduce a lot of new activities and routines for your family to grow with. Another great thing is that it only requires a few supplies and 3 easy steps to get this good thing going! Tailor the jar to fit into your family style, budget, and personality. Then create some type of incentive and/or schedule to use the jar. With the variety of ways that you can customize your jar, it can be used to provide family fun for a lifetime. You can also mix it up and make a private jar for just the adults, if you get where I'm going with that. Mix up the categories, mix up the sticks, and mix up the routine to create lots of fun for a very long time.

To create your own Family Fun Jar, you will need :

- 1 Mason Jar with Lid

- List of Categories and Activities

- 50-100 Colorful Wooden Sticks

- Fine point Markers

- Decorative Decals and/or Stickers

- Acrylic or Spray Paint

1. First, you want to decorate the jar. Cover half, or cover the entire jar in a color of your choosing using acrylic or spray paint. You should not be able to easily view what's inside the jar. For best results, select a color that matches the area where your jar will be stationed. When the paint has dried, you can use custom decals, stickers, or markers to further label and decorate the jar.

2. Next, you want to create a list of categories and selections for each category. The number of categories is up to you and your family. For best results, use a minimum of 4. It's also very useful to keep an ongoing copy of your list, that way you can easily add new ideas for new sticks as they pop up. Storing a note in your phone or computer is a good place to do that. At the bottom of this post, I've shared some category and activity ideas to help you get started. As always, get krafty and feel free to make it your own! After completing your list, transfer the items onto the wooden sticks using the fine point markers or an ink pen. Be sure that each category is assigned to the stick color listed on your color guide.

3. Have fun! Take turns pulling sticks to plan out your family fun time. Store the used sticks in a safe place, and refill the jar with new ones as the seasons change. Yes, it's fine to reuse the same sticks by placing them right back into the jar, but for even more variety, I would recommend storing them away in a secure place and then putting them back in the jar after the other options have run low. Make yourself a family fun video. Trust me, you'll want to capture those moments. If you post it online, use the hashtag #FamilyJarFunDay for a chance to be featured on our page. We can't wait to see how you and your family spend time together using your family fun jars. Take a look here to see how we made and used ours.
